Trump Administration Renews Campus Antisemitism Pressure

The Trump administration has reignited its campaign against antisemitism on college campuses, filing a lawsuit against Harvard University and launching investigations at multiple institutions. The government is demanding information about Jewish students and faculty at schools like UCLA and Penn, while threatening funding cuts and tax-exempt status.

Some Jewish students and alumni support the administration's efforts, viewing them as fulfillment of campaign promises to protect Jewish communities. Shabbos Kestenbaum, a Harvard graduate who previously sued the university, praised the administration for "delivering long-overdue accountability" after years of alleged discrimination. White House spokeswoman Liz Huston echoed this stance, saying Harvard allowed Jewish students to be "discriminated against for years."

Critics argue the administration is exploiting antisemitism concerns to target politically opposed institutions. Wesleyan University President Michael S. Roth, the first Jewish president of his school, contends the campaign is "about attacking institutions with which the president has a beef" rather than protecting Jewish students. Federal Judge Allison D. Burroughs reached a similar conclusion last year, calling the government's actions a "targeted, ideologically-motivated assault" on elite universities.
