The Trump administration plans to increase deportation flights to Haiti from monthly to weekly, potentially deporting hundreds more per month, following the end of Temporary Protected Status for Haitians. The move comes despite ongoing gang violence, kidnappings, and instability in Haiti, including FAA bans on commercial flights to Port-au-Prince due to safety concerns. Officials are rerouting flights to Cap Haitien, 120 miles away, to avoid risks at the main airport.

Daniel Foote, former Biden special envoy to Haiti, criticized the decision, stating conditions have worsened and deportations will send long-term U.S. residents to a dangerous environment. Internal documents show Homeland Security terminated protections in June 2025 without State Department input, which typically assesses country conditions. Over 300,000 Haitians were previously protected under the program.

The administration has offered $2,600 and free tickets to encourage self-deportation via an app. Recent flights have included individuals with criminal records, and ICE deported over 160 Haitians to Cap Haitien last Thursday. Foote questioned the safety assessment, saying Haiti continues to deteriorate.
