Texas Attorney General Race Gets $2.75M Boost

A $2.75 million last-minute donation from Amarillo businessman Alex Fairly could reshape the Republican primary runoff for Texas Attorney General. The cash infusion boosts Congressman Chip Roy, who has struggled against self-funded state senator Mayes Middleton in a race to replace Ken Paxton.

Roy reported raising nearly $8 million since late February, including Fairly's contribution and several half-million-dollar donations. Middleton brought in $5.7 million, with over $3 million from his own pocket. The runoff election is May 26, with early voting already underway.

The Texas Attorney General post wields outsized influence over conservative legal battles, targeting Democratic policies and shaping business regulations. Both candidates pledge to advance Christian values and back Trump's agenda, but Roy brings congressional experience while Middleton touts his "MAGA Mayes" brand.

Fairly's contribution, made through a PAC he controls, will likely fund advertising in the race's final days. Middleton did not respond to requests for comment. The winner faces one of two Democrats in November.
