Southern California will experience some of the hottest temperatures of the year on Wednesday, with several communities projected to reach triple‑digit highs. CBS LA meteorologists predict this could be one of the hottest days of the summer and of the year.

The National Weather Service says the highs will be 12-18 degrees above normal, and temperatures could range between 90 and 110 degrees across most of the region. An extreme heat warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Officials warn of a significant risk for heat‑related illnesses. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated and remain in air‑conditioned rooms. Leaving children or pets in unattended cars is deadly in these conditions.

Monsoonal moisture adds muggy, sticky air and raises the chance of thunderstorms. The NWS also cautions about fire danger, with winds of 20-30 mph and gusts up to 35‑55 mph in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. A red flag warning runs from noon Wednesday to 9 a.m. Thursday.
