San Diego Mosque Shooting Suspects Identified as Teenagers in Hate Crime Investigation

Authorities identified two teenagers who killed three men at the Islamic Center of San Diego before taking their own lives in what police are investigating as a hate crime. The suspects, Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vazquez, 18, were found dead in a white BMW near the scene.

Clark, a former high school wrestler with no disciplinary record since elementary school, had been scheduled to graduate from an online academy. His mother reported him missing after discovering several guns and her car were gone. Police tracked the pair using license plate readers before the attack occurred.

Investigators recovered Nazi SS insignia, anti-Islamic writings, and "hate speech" markings on weapons from the vehicle. Three mosque members died: security guard Amin Abdullah, store manager Mansour Kaziha, and Nader Awad. Authorities found generalized hate rhetoric rather than specific threats.

The tragedy adds to rising concerns about Islamophobia and domestic extremism targeting religious communities. This attack demonstrates how radicalization can emerge from unexpected sources, challenging assumptions about who poses security risks.
