Russia launched a massive overnight assault on Ukraine, firing 480 drones and 29 missiles in a coordinated attack that killed at least 10 people in Kharkiv. A ballistic missile struck a five-story apartment building, killing civilians including a primary schoolteacher and two children. The attack also damaged critical infrastructure in Kyiv, leaving nearly 2,000 buildings without heat.

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted most of the incoming weapons, but 22 sites were hit across multiple regions. The Odesa region suffered port infrastructure damage, while energy and railway systems in several areas sustained hits. President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strikes as attempts to destroy residential and critical infrastructure, urging allies to maintain air defense support without interruption.

The timing of the assault raised concerns about shifting global attention away from Ukraine toward Middle East conflicts. Zelensky has warned that ongoing hostilities between the U.S., Israel, and Iran could impact air defense deliveries to Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader has offered to trade interceptor drones for Patriot missile systems, leveraging Ukraine's four years of experience countering Iranian-designed Shahed drones that Russia deployed early in the invasion.
