Lightning, a humanoid robot developed by Chinese smartphone brand Honor, finished a half-marathon in 50 minutes and 26 seconds—outpacing the human world record holder and all 12,000 human participants in a parallel race.

The robot competed alongside more than 300 others in Beijing, navigating obstacles and even recovering from a fall near the end. Its design draws from elite human biomechanics, featuring elongated legs and liquid-cooled joints derived from consumer electronics.

While the feat showcases advances in Chinese robotics hardware, experts say it reflects manufacturing scale over scientific leaps. China aims to lead globally in robotics deployment, now home to more robots than the rest of the world combined.
