Randy Rodriguez Santos received a 40-year sentence to life in prison for bludgeoning four homeless men to death in Manhattan's Chinatown in 2019. The victims, ranging from their late 30s to 80s, were Anthony Manson, Nazario Vazquez Villegas, Chuen Kwok, and Florencio Moran Camano. A jury rejected the defense's claim that mental illness absolved Santos of responsibility.

Judge Laura Ward called the case the "coming together of three horrible symptoms of this city: homelessness, mental illness and narcotics abuse." The 31-year-old defendant, who moved from the Dominican Republic five years before the attacks, had struggled with schizophrenia and drug use, spending time in shelters and jail prior to the fatal attacks.

Santos addressed the court before sentencing, expressing remorse and stating he wants to "be somebody when I get out of jail." Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg emphasized that "unhoused individuals deserve the same level of safety as anyone else," highlighting the case's implications for addressing systemic failures in protecting vulnerable New Yorkers.
