Nepal's young government is seeking reparations from major economies as the nation faces devastating climate disasters. Tashi Lhazom, a climate activist whose home was destroyed by glacial floods, helped spur a Gen Z revolution that brought a youth-dominated government to power in March. After August floods left over 8,000 dead or missing, she demanded compensation for what she calls a "climate national emergency." Prime Minister Balendra Shah plans to address the UN General Assembly pushing industrialized nations to pay for climate-linked disasters.

His office is in contact with Greta Thunberg, who made a video supporting Nepal's reparations quest. Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal stated the government feels its election victory was prepared by young people. However, persuading industrialized powers remains uncertain, with the US distancing itself from climate science under President Trump, and China and India resisting liability.

Nepal has set a $4.74 billion price tag for flood recovery.
