Bharatpur, the headquarters of Chitwan district in Nepal, is struggling to manage an influx of bodies following devastating floods that killed hundreds. Located downstream on the Bhotekoshi River, the district has received approximately 220 bodies, far exceeding the capacity of local hospital morgues, which can hold only about three dozen. Police chief Rameshwor Poudel stated authorities relied on a government building converted into a makeshift mortuary for 150 bodies, but it lacked proper chilling facilities, having only air-conditioners.

On Saturday, officials decided to bury the unidentified, decomposing remains due to health risks, preserving DNA samples for future identification. At least two other districts face similar storage crises, highlighting Nepal's strained infrastructure. Dozens of bodies were recovered in pieces, complicating identification.

Before burial, police photographed remains; as of Friday, two bodies were identified, including Kabir Lal Chaudhary, 23, a hydropower worker swept away over 100 miles upstream. His brother, Sugrib Tharu, noted the body was decaying due to inadequate refrigeration.
