China's Green Exports Could Offset Brazil's Emissions, CREA Says

Chinese exports of clean technologies this year could offset the equivalent of Brazil's annual emissions from fossil fuels, underscoring the Asian country's role in speeding up the global energy transition. Clean tech sold by China, including solar panels, batteries and electric cars, may help other countries avoid around 450 million tons of CO2 annually, the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air said in a report on Thursday. That amounts to 2% of emissions outside China.

The war in the Middle East has accelerated the move away from fossil fuels as countries reliant on imported oil and gas seek alternatives. China's dominance of green energy has left it uniquely placed to benefit from that shift.

China's exports "have become a key enabler of the global clean-energy transition, driving down the cost, opening up new markets and responding to the rapid increase in demand," according to the report.

In the first nine months of 2026, China's electric vehicle shipments expanded 61% from the previous year, CREA said. Wind turbines grew by 45%, while batteries were up 39% and solar by 22%.
