A catastrophic flash flood in Nepal's Rasuwa district, triggered by a glacial lake outburst, has left at least 389 people dead and 466 injured, with hundreds still missing. The disaster struck on Wednesday following a glacier collapse that sent torrents of mud, water, and debris downstream, devastating entire villages near the Tibet border.

Among the missing are 33 British nationals, including Leena Bector from Slough, whose husband Bhupesh expressed his anguish to The Times: "I know that she's in Nepal for sure, so even if they find her today or tomorrow, I need to be there." Fishtail Tours has confirmed 27 of its clients remain unaccounted for.

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, visiting South Wales, described the scene as "a devastating picture... scenes that we've never seen the like of before, certainly in terms of the scale of the devastation." He announced the deployment of consular staff to the region and £5 million in emergency aid.

The Nepalese government's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority is coordinating rescue efforts, but the rugged terrain and ongoing aftershocks are hampering operations. Survivors are in stunned disbelief, with many families waiting desperately for news of loved ones.
