MLB to Probe Dodgers Doctor Over Banned Drug Support

Investigators for Major League Baseball will question team physician Neal ElAttrache after reports surfaced that he supported UFC star Conor McGregor's use of performance-enhancing drugs. The inquiry centers on why ElAttrache backed McGregor's attempt to secure a drug exemption while recovering from a broken leg in 2021.

ElAttrache is a massive figure in professional sports, having treated 18 of the 29 Cy Young or MVP winners from the last decade. Because he also serves as the team doctor for the Los Angeles Rams, his involvement with banned substances raises questions about medical ethics across multiple professional leagues.

MLB officials want to ensure no baseball players received similar support for banned substances. This caution stems from the sport's history, specifically when Alex Rodriguez used a therapeutic use exemption for testosterone in 2007. The league is now acting to rule out any wrongdoing involving the Los Angeles Dodgers staff.

While MLB has no current allegations against its players, the league is treating the matter seriously due to ElAttrache's prominence. He maintains that he did not prescribe the medication himself but supported the expert opinion that the drugs helped bone healing.
