Middle school students in Hancock County, Mississippi, demonstrated remarkable composure when their bus driver Leah Taylor, 46, blacked out from an asthma attack on Highway 603 near Kiln. As the vehicle with approximately 40 students began drifting toward the shoulder, the young passengers immediately recognized the emergency and coordinated their response to prevent a potentially fatal accident.

Jackson Casnave grabbed the steering wheel while Darrius Clark activated the emergency brakes, bringing the moving bus to a safe stop. Other students including Destiny Cornelius administered medication to the unconscious driver, Kay'Leigh Clark called 911, and McKenzy Finch alerted school authorities. The Hancock County School district praised the students for their quick thinking and responsible actions.

The incident raises questions about emergency preparedness in school transportation systems nationwide. Bus driver Taylor has since fully recovered and returned to her duties, personally thanking the students who averted disaster. Their coordinated response demonstrates the potential benefits of basic emergency training for student passengers facing similar situations.
