As tensions escalate with Iran, families of Iraq War victims reflect on their losses at Arlington Cemetery's Section 60. At least 13 service members have died in the current conflict, with more potentially joining the honored dead if peace efforts fail. These families understand the sacrifice that today's military families face through their own painful experiences from another Middle East conflict decades ago.

Sarah Vaughan's son John, a 23-year-old Army lieutenant, was killed by a sniper in Mosul in 2006. The Colorado resident now visits military cemeteries regularly, offering advice to current military families: 'Stand up straight and be so proud of what their children are doing.' Her son showed military tendencies from childhood, sketching flags and watching military channels.

Patty Stubenhofer lost her husband Mark, an Army captain killed in Baghdad in 2004, leaving her with three children. She now participates in TAPS Good Grief Camp, where her children have become mentors helping other grieving families. 'To us now, every day is Memorial Day,' she says, acknowledging the permanent impact of loss on military families.
