Federal officials have removed migrant children from the Children's Village shelter in Dobbs Ferry, New York, following abuse allegations. The Department of Health and Human Services confirmed it transferred unaccompanied minors to other facilities after receiving complaints about mistreatment at the Westchester County location.

The allegations, first reported by CNN, prompted an audit completed on January 20, with children removed the following week. The Children's Village, founded in 1851, has housed unaccompanied migrant children since 2004 and receives federal funding to provide care and help find sponsors for youth awaiting immigration hearings.

Leecia Welch, chief legal counsel at Children's Rights, said adolescents reported being placed alone for days in a "red room" and punished with restraints and seclusion. The New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs is investigating the complaints, while the shelter operator maintains a zero-tolerance policy for punishment and emphasizes its commitment to professional care.
