Mets' Losing Streak Sparks 'Curse of the Mambino' Talk

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has found himself at the center of a bizarre baseball superstition after posing with the Mets mascots on April 9. Since that photo op, the team has lost 11 straight games, prompting some fans to blame the mayor for what the New York Post dubbed "The Curse of the Mambino."

At a news conference Tuesday, Mamdani was asked if he could reverse the supposed curse. "I am still keeping the faith," he said, noting that many Mets fans across the city remain loyal despite the team's struggles. The losing streak has coincided with real on-field problems, including injuries to star outfielder Juan Soto and underperformance from newly signed Bo Bichette.

While some die-hard fans argue there's a spiritual alliance between the Mets and Mamdani's progressive base, others like conservative radio host Sid Rosenberg have flipped allegiance to the Yankees, convinced the mayor's hug started the curse. Former Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Red Sox fan, dismissed the superstition, suggesting Mamdani might bring good luck to the Knicks instead. The Mets face very real challenges beyond any alleged curse, with scoring fewer than three runs in nine games and giving up more than seven runs in five contests.
