Meta is reportedly in preliminary discussions to lease computing power to Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence lab, in a potential deal valued at approximately $10 billion. This move highlights the ongoing scarcity of computing power essential for AI development and could establish a new revenue stream for Meta.

The discussions come as Anthropic, which is working to scale its advanced AI models like Fable, faces challenges in securing sufficient AI chips, often made by Nvidia. Anthropic has recently pursued similar arrangements, including a deal with Elon Musk's SpaceX.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has previously indicated the company's interest in entering the cloud computing sector, aiming to demonstrate AI-driven profitability beyond its core businesses. Meta is projected to significantly increase capital expenditures for AI infrastructure in 2026, with estimates reaching as high as $145 billion.
