Megan Thee Stallion Exits Moulin Rouge! Broadway Early After Hospitalization

Megan Thee Stallion will play her final performance in "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" on Friday, ending her run more than two weeks earlier than planned. The production announced her departure Monday without giving a reason for the early exit.

The rapper made her Broadway debut on March 24 in the role of Zidler, the nightclub impresario at the heart of the turn-of-the-century Paris story. The show enlisted the 31-year-old artist partly to boost ticket sales, a common strategy for productions deep into their runs. She was hospitalized midway through her second week after collapsing from extreme exhaustion and dehydration, though she returned two nights later.

Her exit follows a tumultuous weekend. She was seen wiping away tears at a Sunday curtain call, hours after announcing her breakup with NBA player Klay Thompson. Whether this influenced her departure remains unclear. The production will announce a replacement soon.

The early exit marks an abrupt end to the high-profile casting, which was meant to invigorate the seven-year-old production set to close Aug. 30.
