Iran has offered to mediate between Saudi Arabia and the Tehran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen, after a string of deadly attacks on the kingdom. The offer came during a Sunday night telephone call between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan. Araghchi warned that insisting on a military approach would further complicate the situation and said Iran stood ready to provide any assistance to help initiate dialogue.
The Saudi government confirmed the ministers had spoken but did not reference the mediation offer.
