Mayor Zohran Mamdani leverages his viral social media style to support Governor Kathy Hochul's re-election bid. In a 73-second video set to a Charli XCX song, Mamdani promotes Hochul against Republican opponent Bruce Blakeman. He labels Blakeman a "bad apple" and criticizes his support for Medicaid cuts and ICE expansion.
The video highlights their alliance, noting Hochul's role in helping Mamdani close a $12 billion budget deficit. Recent polls show Hochul leading by 9-22 points, though allies worry about low Democratic turnout in NYC without competitive down-ballot races. Mamdani aims to remind voters that Blakeman's victory could imperil his agenda, using the video to showcase past collaborations on child care and state funding.
