New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof interviews 14 Palestinians who describe systematic sexual abuse by Israeli soldiers, prison guards, Shin Bet interrogators and settlers. The accounts include allegations of rape, genital torture and forced insertion of objects. A Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor report concludes Israel employs "systematic sexual violence" as "part of an organized state policy," a claim Israel categorically rejects.

Save the Children surveyed children ages 12-17 who had been in Israeli detention; more than half reported witnessing or experiencing sexual violence. The Committee to Protect Journalists found 3% of 59 released Palestinian journalists said they were raped, while 29% endured other sexual violence. Israel has detained over 20,000 people in the West Bank since October 2023, with more than 9,000 still held.

Kristof notes U.S. tax dollars subsidize the Israeli security establishment, making American taxpayers complicit. The Israeli government rejects suggestions of sexual abuse, with a prison service spokesman declining to say whether any staff have been fired or prosecuted for such assaults.
