Justice Dept. Files Trump‑Style Motion to Unfreeze White House Ballroom

The Justice Department filed a motion on Monday that mimics President Trump’s combative online style, linking the recent White House correspondents’ dinner security breach to the pending lawsuit over his proposed White House ballroom. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche signed the filing, which asks Judge Richard J. Leon to reverse his earlier order and let construction proceed and seeks immediate relief today.

The lawsuit was launched by the National Trust for Historic Preservation after Trump allegedly demolished the White House’s historic East Wing without congressional clearance. In the motion, the department accuses the trust of endangering the president’s safety and dismisses the case as “frivolous.” Senate Budget Committee chair Lindsey Graham meanwhile urged Congress to allocate $400 million for the ballroom, which would also house security facilities.

If the judge grants the request, construction could begin within weeks, but the venue would not be operational until near the end of Trump’s term. Critics argue the project circumvents normal oversight and risks further politicization of White House security. The filing demonstrates the Justice Department’s willingness to echo the president’s rhetoric in high‑stakes litigation.
