A February inspection of Camp East Montana in Texas uncovered 49 violations of national standards at one of the nation's largest immigration detention facilities. The review, conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Office of Detention Oversight, found failures in medical care, disease control, and oversight, including improperly documented uses of force.

Of the deficiencies, 22 involved use of force and restraints, while five concerned medical care issues. The facility, operated by Acquisition Logistics under a $1.2 billion federal contract, has faced mounting criticism after at least three detainee deaths and reports of poor conditions including sewage backups and inadequate meals.

The report detailed specific failures, including a detainee with tuberculosis-like symptoms not being isolated, potentially exposing others to illness. Medical response times were also problematic, with some emergency grievances taking up to eight days to address. While 49 interviewed detainees made no allegations of abuse, concerns about food portions and delayed medical treatment were noted.
