The US House of Representatives passed a $1.15 trillion defense policy bill, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), in a near party-line vote. Republicans pushed the bill through, with 216 votes in favor and 212 against, despite opposition from most Democrats.

Democrats cited concerns over the war with Iran and Donald Trump’s proposed voting restrictions, included in the bill, as reasons for their dissent. The bill aims to reverse decades of underinvestment in the military and includes provisions for generational investments. However, the path to its passage was complicated by the president's actions regarding Iran and the inclusion of the Save America Act, which proposes banning mail-in ballots and imposing new voter identification requirements.

Democrats also expressed concerns about the bill's overall cost and planned cuts to domestic programs. Some progressive members, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, opposed the bill due to provisions deepening US-Israel defense cooperation. Amendments concerning military aid to Ukraine and transgender service members were also debated but did not pass in their proposed forms. The bill now moves to the Senate.
