Gen Z AI Use Grows But Enthusiasm Drops Sharply

More than half of Gen Z uses generative AI regularly, but their optimism about the technology is plummeting. A new Gallup survey found that only 18 percent of young adults now feel hopeful about AI, down from 27 percent last year. The study, conducted with the Walton Family Foundation and GSV Ventures, surveyed over 1,500 Americans aged 14 to 29 in February and March.

Young workers are especially skeptical, with nearly half saying AI's risks outweigh its benefits in the workplace - an 11-point increase from the previous year. Only 15 percent view AI as a net positive for their careers. Despite widespread access to tools like ChatGPT, adoption rates have plateaued, with about half of young people using AI daily or weekly.

Respondents expressed concerns about AI's impact on creativity, critical thinking, and entry-level job opportunities. While some, like software tester Ryan Guckian, embrace AI for coding and brainstorming, others worry about social skills atrophy and misinformation. The findings suggest a generation grappling with AI's role in education and work, with curiosity remaining the most common emotional response despite growing reservations.
