A court in Verden sentenced 67‑year‑old Daniela Klette, the last known active member of the Red Army Faction, to 13 years in prison. The verdict covered six aggravated robberies carried out between 1999 and 2016 to fund her life on the run, after the group dissolved in the 1990s.

Klette and two accomplices hit armored trucks and supermarkets across western Germany, stealing more than $3.1 million. One heist involved a fake grenade launcher and gunfire to breach an armored vehicle. Prosecutors also linked her to earlier terror attacks, but those charges were excluded from this trial.

The case resurfaced after a journalist used facial‑recognition tools to match Klette’s image on a Berlin capoeira club’s Facebook page, leading police to her Kreuzberg flat in 2024. Officers uncovered gold, a replica weapon and €240,000 in cash. Supporters protested the verdict, but the court’s decision underscores Germany’s resolve to close the chapter on post‑Cold‑War left‑wing militancy.
