A group of Democrats concerned their party is not moving quickly enough to address voter anxiety about artificial intelligence has started a political action committee called Tomorrow Together. Led by Democratic campaign veterans Karthik Ganapathy and Rob Flaherty, the PAC has raised more than $10 million from party donors and A. I. safety advocates.

It aims to support midterm House candidates in swing states who back child-safety, data-privacy regulations, and limits on data center construction. The organization will also invest in polling. Ganapathy, a former aide to Senator Bernie Sanders, said Democrats are behind on A.

I. and warned the party’s approach “won’t even get us through this election cycle, let alone the next one.” Flaherty, a former deputy campaign manager for Kamala Harris’s 2024 campaign, said A. I. will be the defining issue of the 2028 presidential election. Though they differ on policy, Ganapathy and Flaherty united over concerns that party leadership is falling short on A.

I., a rare issue bridging Democratic and Republican voters. Flaherty noted Republicans are already competing to win on A. I., and Democrats must do the same.

Americans across the spectrum are uneasy about A. I.’s impact on jobs, energy, education, mental health, and cybersecurity, with most believing risks outweigh benefits. Despite state-level regulations, federal guardrails remain stalled, and voters are unsure which party to trust.

Flaherty predicted the A. I. boom could cause “unprecedented wealth concentration” and widespread unemployment, warning “the pitchforks are going to come out at some point.”.
