Democrats’ Double Standard on Antisemitism Sparks Internal Rift

Democratic congressman Josh Gottheimer uses a guest essay to charge his party with a double standard on antisemitism. He notes that Democrats swiftly condemned white‑supremacist rallies in Charlottesville (2017) and Trump’s dinner with Nick Fuentes (2022), yet remain largely silent when far‑left figures spew hateful tropes. The essay arrives as the Anti‑Defamation League reports a three‑year spike in antisemitic incidents and threatens electoral cohesion.

Gottheimer points to streamer Hasan Piker as a vivid example. Piker called Orthodox Jews “inbred,” suggested America “deserved 9/11,” and praised Hamas over Israel, labeling the latter a “fascist settler colonial apartheid state.” Despite private dismay among some Democratic lawmakers, the essay says few have publicly rebuked him, even as they denounce Trump’s bigotry. Their silence fuels extremist momentum.

The essay also cites a Michigan Democratic nominee who praised Hezbollah’s former leader and used classic antisemitic slurs, as well as Senate Democrats who backed measures blocking arms sales to Israel citing human‑rights concerns. Gottheimer argues that selective outrage erodes the party’s moral authority and warns that tolerating left‑wing hate sets a dangerous precedent for future debates on allies and domestic security and compromises national security interests.
