Brin's Political Shift Sparks $57M Tax Battle

Google co-founder Sergey Brin has undergone a dramatic political transformation, shifting from liberal causes to actively opposing California's proposed billionaire tax. Brin has spent $57 million to combat the measure, moving to Nevada before a Dec. 31 deadline to avoid it. His activism has made him California's second-largest individual donor this election cycle, behind only fellow billionaire Tom Steyer.

Brin's political realignment coincides with his relationship with Gerelyn Gilbert-Soto, a Trump-loving influencer who describes herself as a "holistic health coach." The couple regularly attends Trump events at Mar-a-Lago and the White House, where Trump publicly referred to Gilbert-Soto as Brin's "really wonderful MAGA girlfriend." Brin has also donated nearly half a million dollars to the Republican National Committee.

Brin's shift reflects Silicon Valley's broader move toward the Republican party, driven by concerns over California's business climate and taxes. His outspoken stance against what he calls "socialist" policies has jolted him out of his previous political apathy. Brin warns he doesn't want California to "end up in the same place" as the Soviet Union, from which he fled with his family in 1979.
