A federal judge dismissed criminal charges against two Louisville police officers involved in the 2020 shooting death of Breonna Taylor. Judge Charles R. Simpson III approved the Justice Department's request to drop charges with prejudice against Kyle Meany and Joshua Jaynes, preventing future prosecution on the same case.

Taylor, a 26-year-old Black emergency room worker, was killed when officers executed a no-knock warrant at her apartment. Her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired at what he believed were intruders, prompting officers to return fire with over 30 bullets. No drugs were found during the raid. The Trump administration characterized the charges as "weaponized federal overreach" by the Biden administration.

The dismissed charges included falsifying records to justify the warrant. Federal prosecutors had accused the officers of creating false connections between Taylor and criminal activity. This marks the latest Trump administration intervention in the case, following previous efforts to support officers involved in Taylor's death.
