Thuc Doan Nguyen-Brophy, who filmed the second plane hitting the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, from her Lower Manhattan apartment, donated the footage to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum after keeping it hidden for over two decades. She captured the impact of United Airlines Flight 175 on a mini digital video recorder, then stored the tape in a safe, avoiding it due to the traumatic images it held. In 2022, while unpacking in New Orleans, she decided to share the footage, prompted by concerns about tape degradation.

The museum's curator, Dylan Williams, praised the amateur video as a valuable artifact from an era before ubiquitous smartphones, noting its raw, unscripted nature. Nguyen-Brophy, now 50, returned to New York to confront her past, accompanied by filmmaker Keith Maitland and producer Alisa Payne, who are working on a project about her experience.
