On Aug. 2, 2027, a total solar eclipse will sweep across Southern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, offering an exceptionally long period of totality. The path of totality crosses Spain, Egypt, and several other nations, making this one of the most accessible major eclipses in decades.

Dubbed the "Eclipse of the Century" by astronomers, this event will deliver up to 6 minutes and 23 seconds of total darkness — nearly double the duration of the 2024 North American eclipse. The moon's shadow will first touch the Atlantic before racing across the Strait of Gibraltar, southern Spain, the Mediterranean, and into North Africa.

Major viewing cities include Cadiz, Malaga, Luxor, and Cairo, with Luxor positioned near the centerline for maximum duration. Weather prospects are favorable in August, particularly in Egypt's desert regions where clear skies are virtually guaranteed.

Accommodations along the path are already booking rapidly. Travel experts recommend securing lodging and transportation at least 12–18 months in advance, as demand will far exceed supply in prime locations.
