Trump Refiles $10B Defamation Suit Against WSJ

President Trump has refiled his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal over an article concerning a birthday greeting to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The legal action comes after Judge Darrin P. Gayles dismissed Trump's original complaint, stating the former president failed to demonstrate the Journal published the story with "actual malice" – the legal standard required for public officials in defamation cases.

The lawsuit centers on a July 17 Journal article that described a letter and drawing allegedly signed by Trump in a 2003 birthday album compiled for Epstein. Trump's legal team argues the publication acted with reckless disregard by not explaining how the letter was obtained or verified, and by failing to include a denial from Ghislaine Maxwell, who compiled the birthday book.

The defendants include News Corp, parent company of The Wall Street Journal, along with Rupert Murdoch, Robert Thomson, Dow Jones, and two Journal reporters. Dow Jones has vowed to "vigorously defend against any lawsuit," expressing full confidence in their reporting. This high-stakes legal battle underscores the ongoing tensions between media organizations and public figures, with significant financial implications for both parties.
