He is joined by long-time collaborators Sanjay Ghemawat, Quoc Le, and Oriol Vinyals. The startup has received seed funding from Radical Ventures, Khosla Ventures, and other investors, with Alphabet, Google's parent company, also providing computing resources.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai acknowledged the departing researchers' significant contributions. The new company plans to operate as a public benefit corporation, prioritizing broad distribution of scientific discoveries. This departure follows a trend of prominent researchers leaving Google for AI startups, citing faster pace and less bureaucracy.
