Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Masino is stepping down, effective August 10, after a tumultuous period marked by a controversial brand overhaul and pressure to revive sales. Masino, who took the helm in late 2023, initiated a turnaround plan including store remodels, menu refreshes, and brand image updates.

Her tenure faced backlash from loyal customers who accused the chain of abandoning its traditional charm for a more modern, 'woke' aesthetic. The overhaul even drew public criticism from President Donald Trump. Masino will remain as an advisor through October 9 to ensure a smooth transition.

David Deno, former CEO of Bloomin' Brands, has been named Masino's successor. Deno, with extensive experience in restaurant and retail leadership, will aim to stabilize the business and win back diners after several quarters of sluggish performance. The company also recently sold its Maple Street Biscuit Company business to reduce debt.
