California Appeals Court Lets Kars4Kids Ads Stay On Air

The California Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, granted Kars4Kids a stay on the lower court’s order, allowing the charity’s jingle‑driven TV and radio spots to continue in the state for now. The ruling follows a May decision by an Orange County Superior Court judge that the ads violated state false‑advertising rules.

Kars4Kids, which channels donations to the New Jersey‑based Jewish group Oorah, faced the lawsuit after a 70‑year‑old cabinetmaker claimed the ads misled him into donating a Volvo in 2021. The Superior Court had ordered the charity to cease broadcasting within 30 days and to add an audible disclosure of its religious affiliation, beneficiary location and age focus.

Kars4Kids spokeswoman Wendy Kirwan praised the appellate stay and signaled plans to appeal the underlying judgment. If the lower court’s findings stand, the organization would need to redesign its ads, potentially curbing its nationwide fundraising reach and affecting the flow of charitable dollars to Oorah‑run programs.
