A Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner operated by Lufthansa suffered a nose gear collapse while parked at Frankfurt Airport on Thursday. The aircraft's nose wheel unexpectedly retracted at 12:45 p.m. local time, causing the front of the plane to crash to the ground while connected to a jet bridge. Several workers were on the plane when the incident occurred.

The incident forced cancellation of a scheduled flight to Los Angeles with 165 passengers who had not yet boarded. Two cabin crew members and an unspecified number of service workers sustained minor injuries and received hospital treatment. The 787-9 Dreamliner, which can weigh up to 279 tons at takeoff, was preparing for a nearly 12-hour flight when the accident occurred.

Lufthansa confirmed the cause remains under investigation as experts examine the aircraft before moving it to a hangar for further inspection. Boeing stated it is aware of the incident and supporting its customer. The accident adds to scrutiny on the Dreamliner fleet, which includes more than 1,175 aircraft operating worldwide since the first delivery in 2011.
