U.S. President Donald Trump is considering a new round of national security tariffs targeting six industries, including large-scale batteries and industrial chemicals, following a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated much of his previous tariffs under the same legal authority. The Wall Street Journal reported the administration is exploring tariffs under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, which allows tariffs based on national security concerns.

The new measures are distinct from existing tariffs Trump can maintain for 150 days before seeking Congressional approval, as reported by the Journal citing sources familiar with the plans. Industries potentially affected include large-scale batteries, cast iron and iron fittings, plastic piping, industrial chemicals, and power grid and telecom equipment.
