Canada Models Defense Against U.S. Incursion

The Canadian Armed Forces have developed a theoretical model for a hypothetical military invasion by the United States, according to a report from The Globe and Mail. This marks the first time in a century Ottawa has formally modeled an assault from its primary security partner and NATO ally.

Acknowledging a lack of conventional personnel and hardware to repel a full-scale American advance, planners focus on irregular warfare tactics. These include sabotage and drone strikes to counter an occupying force, drawing on historical insurgencies. Strategic estimates suggest U.S. forces could overcome Canada's primary positions within two to seven days.

The modeling reflects a shifting threat assessment under the current U.S. administration, with military assets weighed against potential territorial ambitions in the Arctic. Retired major-general David Fraser noted the psychological shift required for domestic defense, emphasizing that a violation of Canadian sovereignty would likely trigger international intervention.
