Wachtell Lipton's co-chair, Bill Savitt, is reportedly leaving the firm for rival Gibson Dunn with a team of litigators. This move follows a series of high-profile departures from Wachtell, which has seen over half a dozen partners leave for firms like Latham & Watkins and Kirkland & Ellis since early last year.

Savitt, a prominent corporate trial lawyer and an expert in Delaware corporate law, recently played a key role in securing a victory for Sam Altman and OpenAI, helping to dismiss Elon Musk's $150bn lawsuit. He also was involved in forcing Musk's acquisition of Twitter.

While the departures represent a blow to Wachtell, the firm's core business in mergers and acquisitions is not expected to be significantly impacted. Wachtell remains a top-ranked firm, advising on substantial M&A deals, including the recent $53bn sale of Electronic Arts.
