UK MPs push to cut Palantir's role in public data contracts

The House of Commons technology committee told ministers to invoke a 2027 break clause in Palantir's £330mn NHS Federated Data Platform contract, arguing the US firm poses an "unacceptable point of weakness" in defence, health and policing data. MPs warned that reliance on a single overseas supplier could invite foreign interference and lock‑in the public sector.

Committee members cited the company's ties to US defence and co‑founder Alex Karp's political stance as evidence of a mismatch with UK values. They also demanded clarity on Palantir's access to patient records after an FT report revealed "unlimited" data rights for external staff. The report called out a £240mn MoD analytics deal awarded without competition.

Palantir UK head Louis Mosley dismissed the criticism as politicised, claiming the technology improves NHS operations, reduces crime and enhances military capability. The government responded that digital platforms are already delivering faster cancer diagnoses and that it will consider the committee's recommendations while seeking to reduce dependence on any single tech provider.
