Target reported higher second‑quarter profits after receiving a $1bn tariff refund, with same‑store sales rising 3.8% for the quarter ended Aug. 1, the second straight gain after three flat years.

CEO Michael Fiddelke highlighted the turnaround plan that cut prices on more than 10,000 items and named designer Isaac Mizrahi as creative director‑at‑large. The refund delivered a $994mn pre‑tax boost after the US Supreme Court overturned the Trump tariffs in February.

Other retailers also benefited: TJX collected $331mn, Home Depot $685mn. Target’s net sales hit $26.5bn, net income doubled to $1.9bn, and the company raised full‑year guidance; shares rose 4.5%.

Analyst Corey Tarlowe of Jefferies said the focus on value and differentiation is resonating with shoppers.
