Secretive £190M London Mansion Sale Highlights Property Transparency Gap

A mysterious buyer is close to purchasing The Holme, one of London's priciest mansions, for £190 million, up from the £139 million paid less than two years ago. The 40-bedroom Regent's Park property, previously owned by Saudi royals, changed hands in 2024 through a trust company, maintaining its opaque ownership structure.

The sale highlights the UK's ongoing struggle with property transparency, despite a 2022 register requiring offshore owners to reveal their identities. Zedra Trust Company (UK) Limited, the current owner, has not disclosed the seller's or buyer's identity, reflecting the challenges in cracking down on anonymous high-end real estate deals.

The Holme, located near the US ambassador's residence and held on a long lease from the Crown Estate, ranks below London's most expensive sale this year—a £275 million Chelsea mansion. Its repeated transactions at huge markups underscore the city's super-prime market dynamics amid heightened scrutiny of elite property purchases.
