Pakistan-Afghan Conflict Escalates After Hospital Strike

Afghanistan has accused Pakistan of killing 400 people in an air strike on a Kabul hospital, marking a dramatic escalation in tensions between the neighbors. Taliban officials claim Pakistani forces targeted the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital, a 2,000-bed facility, on Monday night, destroying large sections of the building.

Deputy Taliban spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said the death toll has reached 400 with 250 injured, though these numbers remain unverified. Pakistan denies targeting civilians, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's spokesperson stating the strikes will continue until terrorists and their infrastructure are eliminated. The conflict stems from Pakistan's accusations that Afghanistan harbors militants in border regions.

The attack comes despite recent Chinese diplomatic efforts to mediate between the two nations. China has strengthened ties with both countries, serving as a security and economic partner to Pakistan while growing closer to the Taliban in recent months. This latest violence threatens to derail those mediation attempts and could further destabilize the already volatile region.
