Nvidia is restarting production of its H200 AI chips for sale in China after receiving US government approvals and customer orders within the past two weeks. Chief executive Jensen Huang announced the move at the company's GTC conference, stating partners had paused manufacturing earlier due to regulatory uncertainty. 'We’ve been licensed for many customers in China for the H200. We have received purchase orders from many customers,' Huang said.

The situation has improved significantly from two weeks ago, with the supply chain 'getting fired up.' This comes after Nvidia secured a December deal permitting H200 sales to China while giving the US a 25% revenue cut. The $50bn Chinese AI chip market represents a major revenue opportunity for the $4.5tn chip company.
