Nato allies revealed tens of billions of dollars in defense industry deals, including purchases of surveillance planes and advanced drones, at a summit in Turkey. The moves aim to demonstrate increased European defense spending to U.S. President Donald Trump, who has criticized the alliance's contributions.

Key acquisitions include up to ten "Global Eye" surveillance planes from a consortium led by Saab and Bombardier, costing an estimated $400 million to $450 million each. Additionally, Norway, Finland, Germany, and Denmark are set to purchase up to five Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton high-altitude surveillance drones, with individual costs around $270 million.

These announcements follow efforts by Nato Secretary-General Mark Rutte to address U.S. concerns over defense spending commitments. While some deals involve U.S. companies, others are with European manufacturers. The initiatives seek to bolster allied capabilities and interoperability, though challenges remain in securing transatlantic co-production agreements for advanced weaponry.
