Mango Founder's Son Faces Homicide Probe Over €4.5bn Fortune

A Spanish judge has opened a homicide case against Jonathan Andic, son of the late Mango founder Isak Andic, alleging premeditated involvement in his father's fatal mountain fall. Jonathan Andic was arrested and released on €1 million bail as Judge Raquel Nieto Galván cited "sufficient indications" of intentional wrongdoing. The elder Andic, who built a €4.5 billion fashion empire, died at 71 during a December 2024 hiking trip with his son.

The judge's court order reveals WhatsApp messages showing a strained relationship driven by Jonathan's "obsession with money." According to the filing, Jonathan repeatedly requested advance inheritance payments, which his father felt compelled to grant to maintain their relationship. The conflict intensified when Isak Andic planned to redirect part of his fortune into a philanthropic foundation, described by the judge as "a possible economic motive" for the alleged crime.

Investigators found contradictions in Jonathan's accounts of the incident and his prior visits to the mountain location. Vehicle data showed he drove to the area three times in the days before the fall, conflicting with his initial statements. His lawyer maintains the homicide conjecture is "unfounded" and "painful," while the family expressed confidence that "the truth and innocence will prevail."

The case now awaits the investigating judge's decision on whether to pursue formal charges. Meanwhile, the Mango fashion empire continues operating under existing leadership, though questions about succession and potential shifts in strategic direction may emerge depending on the legal outcome.
