Jacob’s Creek relaunch aims at premium UK market

Jacob’s Creek, the brand that introduced Australian wine to British tables three decades ago, is being relaunched under new owner Vinarchy. After Pernod Ricard sold the wine division last year, the group hopes the revival will reclaim a share of the UK’s second‑largest wine import market, where Australian labels still dominate and compete with the likes of Yellow Tail for shelf space.

The refreshed range drops vintage or grape references, offering a “juicy and smooth” red and a “refreshing and lively” rosé priced at £9.50 per bottle. That sits near the top of the IWSR’s £6.50‑£10.20 price band, where 55 % of UK wine sales fall. By contrast, market leader Yellow Tail trades around £7.50, giving Jacob’s Creek a premium positioning.

Vinarchy may look beyond standard 750 ml bottles, a move some producers are testing despite oxidation challenges. Smaller formats could align with Britain’s shift toward low‑and no‑alcohol drinks and ready‑to‑drink cans, where growth outpaces still wine. If the brand can deliver consistent quality in a new size, it could translate nostalgia into measurable volume gains for the company and strengthen its foothold in the premium segment.
