JAB Holdings Reaps $6bn from JDE Peet's Sale, Shifts to Insurance

JAB Holdings secured a $6bn windfall in 2025 from selling its stake in coffee giant JDE Peet's to Keurig Dr Pepper, helping the troubled investment group swing to an $810mn profit after a bruising 2024 when it posted $10bn in losses from its consumer assets. The transaction, valued at €15.7bn, saw JAB offload its 68% holding in JDE Peet's at €31.85 per share—a 33% premium to the 90-day average.

The Reimann family-backed firm, which owns Pret A Manger, Panera Bread and Krispy Kreme, has been hammered by shifting consumer tastes and inflation, with Coty and Krispy Kreme shares falling 45% and 35% respectively in 2025. The sale proceeds will slash JAB's net debt from $10.5bn to roughly $2bn, providing a lifeline as it pivots toward insurance—now comprising over 40% of its portfolio—following years of coffee and sandwich-heavy investments.

KDP shares fell 30% in the two months after the deal was announced, wiping $10bn from its market capitalisation as investors questioned the debt load. JAB plans to float Panera Bread, Pret A Manger and its pet health business NVA, though no timeline has been set.
